Intro 2 Competition: 10 or older
Development: 12 or older with prior paddling experience
High Performance: 14 and older with significant paddling experience

Development: September 8 to October 18, 2025
High Performance: September 15, to October 31, 2025
Practice times:
Intro 2 Competition: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 4:00 - 5:30 PM
Development: Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings 6:30 - 8:00 AM
Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 5:30-7:00 PM
Saturday mornings, 8:00-10:00 AM (optional)
High Performance: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, mornings 6:30 - 8:00 AM
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday evenings 5:30 - 7:00 PM Saturday mornings, 8:00 - 10:00 AM

NBCC’s Fall Training is a great way for paddlers at any level to improve paddling technique, strength, and fitness. We offer three programs based on age and paddling experience:
Intro 2 Competition Fall Program
This program is designed to provide athletes ages 10 and up with the opportunity to continue developing their paddling skills as the weather cools down. This program bridges the gap between recreational paddling and competitive training, preparing athletes for the upcoming season while keeping them active and engaged throughout the fall.
Participants will train in sprint canoe and kayak, focusing on building solid technique, developing fitness, and fostering confidence in a supportive team environment. Guided by an experienced coach, athletes will refine their paddling abilities while enjoying the fun and camaraderie of fall training on the water.
Program Objectives
• Keep young athletes engaged in paddling during the fall season
• Develop and refine paddling technique in sprint canoe and kayak
• Improve overall fitness, strength, and endurance
• Introduce athletes to a structured training environment with a competitive focus

Development Fall Program
This program is designed for athletes who are ready to take the next step beyond introductory competition. Aimed at committed athletes ages 12 and up, this program provides structured, multi-day training in sprint canoe and kayak with a strong emphasis on technique, fitness, and discipline.
Athletes will train five days per week (with an optional Saturday practice), engaging in on-water paddling, weights, running, and cross-training. The program builds the foundation for long-term success in sprint canoe-kayak, fostering resilience, accountability, and preparation for a full competitive season.
Program Objectives
- Advance Paddling Technique – Refine efficiency, stroke mechanics, and boat control under varying conditions.
- Increase Training Load – Adapt to a multi-day training schedule with greater volume and intensity.
- Build Strength & Endurance – Develop athletic power through weights, running, and conditioning.
- Enhance Race Skills – Focus on starts, pacing, and race-specific strategies.
- Promote Accountability – Encourage athletes to take responsibility for attendance, preparation, and effort.
- Develop Team Culture – Strengthen group dynamics, teamwork, and peer support.

High Performance Fall Program
This program is designed for experienced athletes training to compete at Provincial and National competitions vying for spots on the Ontario and Canadian teams. Athletes will train 9 times per week before and after school and on Saturday mornings as part of their year-round regimen. Practices will consist of on-water and dryland workouts focusing on higher volume, aerobic fitness, technique refinement and strength training.
Program Objectives
- Advance Paddling Technique – Refine efficiency, stroke mechanics, and boat control under varying conditions.
- Increase Training Load – Adapt to a more intense training schedule with greater volume and intensity.
- Build Sport-Specific Strength & Endurance – Continue to develop athletic power, speed and skills for racing Olympic distances.
- Further Refine Race Skills – Focus on mental preparation, race strategies and ability to handle a variety of conditions and situations
- Critical Thinking - Gain an understanding the athlete's role in critical thinking and decision making for training, performance, equipment, education, and social life
- Managing Lifestyle - Learn to manage their lifestyle to meet training commitments.
