U16/U18/Junior Sprint Racing - Summer
July 4 – August 27, 2022
8-12 practices per week, early mornings and late afternoons
U16: 15 or under on January 1, 2022 (Born in 2006 or 2007)
U18: 17 or under on January 1, 2022 (Born in 2004 or 2005)
Junior: 18 or older on January 1, 2022 (Born in 2003 or earlier)
This program is designed for experienced paddlers aged 14 and older who are training with the goal of competing in the Canoe Kayak Canada National Championships and being selected for the Junior Provincial or National Team. Training focuses on the continued development of proper canoe/kayak technique, general and sport specific conditioning, team boat skills, and racing performance skills.
Athletes train typically train in the early morning and late afternoon, Monday to Friday and Saturdays, averaging between 8 and 12 practices per week. Regattas and Provincial/National Team trials are held on weekends, usually in the Ottawa area, culminating in the Canadian Championships which are held at various locations across Canada at the end of August each year. The summer program is designed to build on the strength and conditioning developed the previous fall, winter and spring, and ensure athletes reach their peak performance in line with those National Championships.
The NBCC Fee covers:
- Program delivery (coaching, use of facilities and equipment)
- $100 volunteer deposit that is refunded after completion of 10 or more parent volunteer hours
- Canoe Kayak Canada, Canoe Kayak Ontario Sprint and Eastern Ontario Division (EOD) affiliation fees
- Entry fees for club regattas and EOD Qualifiers*
- Insurance costs
*Fees for Ontario Championships, Canadian Championships, Team trials and training camps will be charged separately as those events occur.
